Internal Soundtrack

Just so you know, my internal soundtrack is NOT cool at all. It's mostly made up of silly kids songs and other shit that is just plain stupid.

For example:

Every time I pee, my brain plays "Turkey in the Straw;" really fast.

Also, when I check my blog, and no one has commented, my brain plays, "Everybody Hates Me. Nobody Loves Me. Guess I'll Go Eat Worms."

When Sophie is having a huge breakdown, which she is currently doing (She screams this high pitched scream, really, really loudly) it plays "Little Girls" from Annie. Particularly the part, "If I ring little necks, surely I would get an acquittal."

In other mind boggling news, I went back to work today. The kids don't come back until the 16th, but we get to be motivational speakered to death for a week before. Because, you know, I don't actually have any WORK to do (she said sarcastically).

So spill--what ditties does your brain play for you during the day? Or am I the only one. Also, why not tell me one thing one of your old English teachers did that was particularly cool/meaningful/useful in your real life.

I have several earworm wars going on, with my office mates, with a couple of online pals. So, generally, I have to fight all that stuff with iTunes.

It's saved my life and sanity, many many a time over.

(Today's weaponry: Fernando/Abba, Oh Sherry/Journey, You'll Never Find/Lou Rawls, Open Arms...horrible horrible workmates)

I too am protected by my MP3 player. Otherwise it would be the Funny Farm song 24/7.

Indiana Jones Theme. At least once a day every day. Then my coworker chimes in with Jurassic Park. Our boss loves us :)

The music theme to LUCY SHOW would be my life right now!

Or possibly Johnny Paycheck's (I think he is the one) TAKE THIS JOB AND SHOVE IT.......

And for some STUPID reason I have had "I wanna check you for ticks" going through my head since the camping trip this weekend.......if you haven't heard it - listen to Country for 10 minutes and you will catch it.

English Teacher....in High School at least Once a Semester we got to "choose" our book for a extra credit book report. I learned that reading can be fun and take you new places - instead of being assigned "Death of a Salesman" which I was not even in the least interested it...I could read "Jane Eyre" and loved it.

Oh yeah I forgot to say that when you gave your book report if you inspired someone else in your class to read your book (via the Peer Survey each of us had to complete - it had a question From what you have heard would you like to read this book? We got 20 extra points on the report - if you had more than 5 people out of the 25 in class you were exempt from the next homework assignment.

I get a lot of instrumental themes stuck in my head. The music from Six Feet Under hops in there a lot. Other instrumental stuff, like Year 2000 Non-Compliance Cardia by Mogwai, makes for some interesting scoring.

For all my purported dislike of musical theatre, I have A LOT of songs from musicals bouncing around in that skull o' mine. I'll only admit which ones under duress (okay, the most shameful is Oklahoma; I played Curly my senior year of high school).

Anything from White Christmas; I justify that by positing that Irving Berlin was the forerunner to Stephen Merritt. Speaking of Merritt, anything from the Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs can follow me around for days (in fact, when TBO mentioned "Fernando"--which I like quite a lot, actually--I started hearing the similar guitar intro to the Magnetic Fields' "All My Little Words").

Flight of the Bumblebee, Can-Can, and the Keystone Cops theme (I don't know what the piece is actually called) come up a lot. Oh, and the Mission Impossible theme.

Lately, Farkle & Friends by John Lithgow. Unfortunately, all songs within my singable range, which is muy narrow, and I think that contributes to their stickiness.

I've had an awful lot of English teachers between an undergraduate minor and then grad school. For none of the great ones, and there were a lot, is there a signature moment. It was all about relationship.

I'm quite fond of the fact that I made two different HS English teachers cuss in public. One called me "a fucking craphead" in a hallway full of students between classes, and another said she'd throw me out "if I didn't fucking shape up" in the middle of class.

For the former, I had fallen asleep in his class while wearing a sombrero, which I believe made the crime more outright annoying, and for the latter I exposed one two many times what a complete dumbass she was about journalism.

She was later caught en flagrante delicto with a student in that very classroom. Classy.
